Christian Eckes, Driver Q&A
Are you looking forward to the month of August where you have a race every weekend?
Yeah — for sure, having four races coming up with Michigan, Daytona Road Course, Gateway and Dover. It’s an interesting group of racetracks, but at the same time, I’m really looking forward to building on what we’ve started so far this year. Obviously, I wish we could still practice, but in the same aspect getting more seat time with more races and more experience will only get us better for the playoffs. I’m looking forward to this four-week stretch.”
Do you feel that Michigan races like a 1.5-mile track, like a superspeedway or a combination of both?
“I’d say a combination of both. The draft runs and how you can push is very similar to Talladega and Daytona, but in the same aspect, it has mile-and-a-half characteristics with how you can control air and how the truck drives and handles. I would say a mixture of both. It’s always a track that I’ve enjoyed going to. I look forward to getting there in my Safelite Tundra this weekend.”
After two runner-up finishes in the last three races do you feel like a win is just around the corner?
“Yeah — I’d say we’re close for sure. We are getting better and better every week. The last two second-place finishes have been completely different, which leaves us optimistic. At Texas, we were really fast and kind of got that position because of how fast we were. At Kansas, we did a really good job executing and got ourselves in a position to attack at the end. Overall, I’m really pleased with our progress so far. It’s down to the little things now. It’s fine-tuning those little things. I truly believe we can do that at Michigan. It’s a place that I’ve been at before and Rudy has always run really well at. I’m really looking forward to getting in my Safelite Tundra.”
